Mac OS vs Windows - The tough choice !

Here’s the real deal. Mac os VS Windows. A big-time debate in the history of mankind. Let me break this down for students - yes the Architecture students, obviously!

So the storyline is since we all use software from our third year onwards, there comes a need for a laptop even if your college has a computer lab. Then comes our biggest question. Mac OS or Windows.

Well, both these got their merits and demerits. The price difference cannot be considered a factor because you need to invest maybe even higher to get a powerful laptop. Both these are gonna burn a hole in your pocket. The mac user interface is smooth and the applications run well. But the number of supported applications is less compared to that which is offered by the windows counterpart.

Lumion, 3DSMax, and Revit are the leading software which mac os doesn’t support and it is quite disappointing. Running a parallel OS, well I wouldn’t recommend it. Well, if money doesn’t matter. Go on to the end of the article. There is a slightly expensive way to do so!

A MacBook is much lighter and literally, you can carry it around anywhere you want whether be it presentations or work - that is an absolute blessing. A powerful windows laptop weighs about 4kg and carrying that daily - I didn’t want to sign up for that.

The Retina screen does not screw your eyes much.

Not all Macbooks perform well. The 2015 MacBook Pro series is the best considering its performance and battery life (Also, they have the backlight- I kinda love it). You need not run around looking for charging points. Straight up to 9 hours or maybe more depending on the software being used.

Razerblade Pro ( they are lightweight too and also has an option for an external GPU ), Asus gaming laptops, Dell Gaming Series, MSN, Alienware, HP gaming series are some good options to pick from. This is solely based on the user data from my class and to help students and no companies have asked me to promote or do so ( Because I’m not a celeb ).

I would recommend getting a Razerblade Pro or Stealth, but they do not sell in India yet, but the good news is there's a way out.

Whichever laptop you are choosing, go for the highest RAM, Graphics card and Hard disk space available. It will cost you additional bucks but its worth it.

Here’s to the Running parallel on Mac os using a Razerblade external GPU. With some pocketful bucks, you can power up your mac to run parallel. It pretty much needs the thunderbolt port and you are good to go!

Good luck with making that big investment. Oh, wait. We are architecture students, getting stationary items also makes you bankrupt!

That's Reshmy signing off for today!
