What not to do in Hampi

What not to do in Hampi

Namaste!

It has been a great journey downhill that I wish if someone told me what not to do to make it even worse. I believe that a smart person learns from all those who make mistakes rather than waiting to make all those mistakes all over.

Oh, You knew this? Well, excuse me for the slowcoach I am.

As a student of architecture, traveling and exploring becomes essential. And citing this, we do have quite some trips. The recent edition being Hampi. Here, I will list ….. things that you should NOT do in Hampi.

For all those who are wondering what this Hampi is;

It sounds funny, hump humppy…Getting back on track.
Let’s see what Wikipedia has got to say on Hampi…

Hampi is a UNESCO World Heritage site in Karnataka, India. That was short and simple.
Now, here we go.

1. Don’t even dream of completing the entire place in less than 2 days. When you are planning to visit this place, at least allow 3 full days

This is because this place is huge. Most probably you will find a hotel in Hospet which is the nearest city. Travel is going to be travel consuming an so we need to plan quite well there.

2. Don’t fall for the guides and packages.

Well, I don’t mean to leave those people penniless. But for a pocket-friendly travel, get to know the local transport and their timings beforehand. This is indeed going to save a lot of Gandhi. We covered the same distance for 250rs on the first day and 16rs on the second. Now you see what I mean.

Pro tip: Go for the trek from Virupaksha temple to Vittila Temple. Now many don’t seem to know about this even if there are guiding signs all over the place.
Go to google maps, walk, here…
But don't trust this device, you are going to have zero networks in that place.

moving on...

4. Don’t forget to carry your water bottle. Should I even say this? While on our small trek, one big mistake we made was to not carry a water bottle. All I could imagine was a scene from “The Way Back” and cries of water, vottah, waaatter.

5. Charge your devices and carry a backup. With all our phones dead, and no network, we were lost and even thought of surviving on the strange plants around us and how to go about life in that place.

6. Don’t be a tourist.
When I say this, believe me, I have made this mistake for more than a decade. Whenever we used to go on trips, we would book the best hotels or luxurious stays and a driver. Basically, I remember how well our shower was lit than how beautiful the Taj Mahal is.

Stay local. That’s going to make all the difference. Your experience is going to be eventful and memorable 5 folds. Try the local cuisine, or stay in a homestay. Didn’t I say youth hostel for kids?

So that's all folks!
Happy Travelling!
